Even though it’s not officially winter yet, the season of celebrations is in full swing. These holiday events in Jersey City will have you feeling festive and a little like a kid again. So grab a loved one and head downtown for some holiday cheer this month.

OUT AND ABOUT TO SEE THE LIGHTS

Some people struggle with the early darkness this time of year. Make the most of it! Evening darkness means beautiful lights in Jersey City. Stop by one of these events to enjoy the magic of lights in December.

  • Menorah Lighting Ceremony at City Hall – Thursday, December 14 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This family-friendly event will take place inside Council chambers.
  • Webb Park Tree Lighting – Also on Thursday, December 14 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM is a festive tree lighting at Ercel Webb Park (Lafayette Park). Kids love this holiday event and might even enjoy a surprise visit from Santa.

HOLIDAY EVENTS IN JERSEY CITY FOR SHOPPING

It seems that people are more generous this time of year. The season also brings out people’s creative sides, so give the internet a pause and visit holiday markets nearby.

  • Happy Holiday Market – Monday December 18 and Thursday December 21 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Stop by the Grove Street PATH Plaza next week to see some of the area’s best unique and handmade gifts. From jewelry to art and even food, there will be something for everyone at this holiday event.
  • Museum Craft Fair – On the weekend of December 16th and 17th, the Hoboken Historical Museum will host its annual Holiday Crafts Fair. From noon to 5:00 PM, enjoy the work of local craftspeople and artisans. You’ll see everything from ornaments to historical prints, even jewelry and items made with recycled materials.

MUSIC AND DANCE FOR THE SEASON

Enjoy some of the best in music and performing arts this month. December is a great time to get out of the house and experience a variety of local talent.

  • 5th Annual Jersey City Mayor’s Holiday Concert – Bring your family to hear the orchestra of St. Peter By The Sea this December 16 from 7:00 PM to 9:30PM. Enjoy the beauty of the Landmark Loew’s Theatre. Admission is free but children’s gift donations are welcomed.
  • Jersey City Nutcracker – Nothing says the holidays like The Nutcracker. Enjoy an urban Jersey City Twist as Nimbus Dance Works puts on their performance December 15-17. Kids of all ages will enjoy this adaptation of the holiday classic.
  • Cantigas Women’s Choir Winter Concert – Come listen to sounds of the season at the 16th annual winter concert “Winter Roses.” The event will take place on Saturday December 16 at 7:30 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Suggested donation is $20 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
  • Fox and Crow Live Music Events – Stop by the Fox and Crow for live music in the parlour this month. They’re featuring the sounds of Andrew Altman as well as the Sensational Country Blues Wonders. Enjoy a late night snack and a strong drink as you get lost in the music, weekend of December 16 and 17.
  • Traditional Irish Music at the Hutton – Every Sunday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM stop by the Hutton Bar and Grill to enjoy good food and music. It’s the perfect holiday event for the weekend.
