April: Spring Events at Liberty Harbor
Spring is officially underway in Jersey City and at Liberty Harbor, we are celebrating in many ways. When the weather’s finally warm enough to get outside and not rush back in, the city comes alive with possibility. Here are some fun spring events to enjoy with the whole family and celebrate the re-greening of our surroundings.
Spring Events and Festivals in Jersey City
Outdoor festivals and spring activities are great ways to get motivated. Plus you can bring the whole family to these events and enjoy getting outside in the fresh air.
- Annual Spring Festival – JC Families hosts its annual festival this year on April 14 at Harborside Atrium. From 10 am – 2 pm enjoy all kinds of music and entertainment, including a puppet show and a bouncy house. For a small fee of $5, there’s something for all family members to enjoy. What’s more, there will be an Easter egg hunt for kids every hour!
- Liberty Harbor Apartment Design Contest – Do you have a flair for home decor? Submit a photo of how you’ve decorated your favorite space in your apartment with the hashtag #MyLHHome from April 1-7. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to Williams Sonoma. Judges will base entries on relevance and creativity, so put your best foot forward.
- Summer Camp Fair – On April 27, join parents and kids while you gain information about summer camps in Jersey City this year. Parents can also speak to representatives from various schools, daycares and activity centers in the area.
- Baby Fair – New and expectant parents will benefit from tons of information and resources on Sunday, April 14 from 11 am until 2 p.m. Receive product samples, breastfeeding consultations and raffle prizes. There are even massages offered for parents to help ease the tension of busy days and nights.
- Craft Brew Festival – On Saturday, April 13 at Harborside Atrium, you can try out more than 150 styles of craft beer. A wide variety of NJ breweries will offer delicious samples while you enjoy live music and interactive games.
Ways to Get Out and Get Active
Despite our best intentions, warm weather and sunny skies alone don’t always get us out and exercising. Spring events like runs, sports and even revisiting local parks can get us motivated. This April, kick start a new healthy you by joining others in your community in one of these ways:
- Earth Day 5K – This April 27, join #TeamLibertyHarbor for a 5K Run/Walk for Liberty State Park. Liberty Harbor residents can meet up with their neighbors for a great day, rain or shine. Enjoy post race refreshments and the Earth Day Fair following. There will also be an Earth Day Kids’ Kingdom.
- Tennis, Anyone? Calling all parents of kids aged 3-9 years old. Super Duper Tennis has classes in Jersey City and the surrounding area beginning this April. Watch your child build self-confidence, a love of the game and have fun in a safe and friendly environment.
- Play Outside – Whether you’re a parent with a little one or heading outside with your significant other, you can find creative ways to be active. Plus, now’s the best time of year to start a new exercise routine. You’ll be ready to meet warmer temps with a renewed confidence.
Earth-Inspired Events and Ways to Go Green
Earth Day 2019 is officially Monday, April 22 but there are lots of ways to celebrate and honor the earth all month long. At Liberty Harbor, we’ll be kicking off a Green Initiative by accepting batteries and unwanted electronics for recycling. Here are some of the other ways you can get into the spirit of going green.
- The Common Market Farm Share – This year, Liberty Harbor will be supporting and promoting a modern farm share. The Common Market offers subscriptions to seasonal and local foods sourced from nearby family farms. Liberty Harbor residents can register before April 12 for the Early Bird fruit and vegetable discount!
- Jersey City Earth Day Festival – The largest Earth Day celebration is in its 28th year. There will be over 100 exhibits that will educate and inspire attendees to appreciate our environment.
- 4th Annual Great Jersey City Cleanup – On Saturday, April 13, join your neighbors at Keep Jersey City Beautiful to help clean and beautify your surroundings. Register online and meet at the Hamilton Park gazebo.
- Gear up for the Plastic Bag Ban – Beginning this June, Jersey City will have a city-wide ban on single-use plastic carry-out bags. And there’s really no reason to wait until June. Cultivate the habit of bringing a tote bag with you each day, so you’re always prepared for a quick stop at the store. Or, treat yourself to a new bag to help you stay motivated to love the earth.
- Get into Upcycling! April is also the time to give upcycling a try. This is the process of transforming old or discarded materials into something useful and often artwork-ish. It’s not only fun but so good for the earth. Get inspired with some of these ideas and involve the whole family.
Longer, Warmer Days
Between the warmer weather and all the events at Liberty Harbor and in Jersey City, you’ll love April. If you missed last month’s post, try some decluttering and spring cleaning to energize your home and open up those windows. Then, take advantage of all the fun and get outside as often as you can.
